The rules are simple. There are seven composition categories. Students of any age under 18 may submit one or more articles or stories under any category. Those selected will be printed in the bi-annual publication of the Magnum Opus. Selections will be made by the editor based on interest level, quality of language, organization, and originality. Those not selected will be published on this website.
1. Summaries- A summary of some historical, scientific, biographical, or current events topics of interest. (350-1000 words)
2. Retold Myths, Fairy Tales, Parables and Fables- A creative retelling of a classical story with embellishment or variations. Submissions should include a copy of the original story. (200-1500)
3. Original Fiction- an original fiction story, not directly based on any already existing story. Moral value strongly encouraged. (500-1500)
4. Poetry- Original poetry, preferably using traditional poetic techniques. Ballad's may be based on existing stories. (4-40 lines)
5. Research- Documented and well written research on a topic of interest and of scientific, historical or biographical nature. Should use multiple sources (depending on age), with quotations and proper citations. (750-2000)
6. Opinion Essay- May be on moral, ethical, political, personal issues, ect., and should be of broad interest. Quotations and citation expected if the subject requires it. (500-1500 words)
7. Reviews and Critiques- Should review a story, book or movie which would be accessible to the reader. (500-1000 words)
